The course aims at providing a thorough review and critical assessment of major issues in economic development with a special reference to the role of trade in development. The module looks into the effects of trade on growth, income inequality, and poverty reduction in developing countries.
The course is divided into five blocs:
- Theory of trade and development;
- Trade policies of developing countries;
- Developing countries in the world trade system;
- Making trade work for development;
- Regional case studies.
On completion of the unit, students should be able to understand the role of trade in economic development and be able to access and examine main sources of economic and social data relevant to development and trade.
