The module introduces the nexus of energy and climate to allow students to understand and critically discuss how natural resources – and the respective policies attached to them – shape international security (as it is typically and broadly conceived).
The module draws on concepts from international political economics and relevant empirical materials to contextualise energy and climate as both security and developmental challenges.
The module will (a) equip students with an understanding of the main conceptual paradigms and empirical issues pertaining to the energy-climate nexus (b) give students policy-relevant knowledge allowing them to critically discuss energy security and environmental protection from the standpoints of international security and development.
