International Responsibility to Protect and Humanitarian Intervention: Workshops and Practice

The main aim of the course is to discuss in a comprehensive way the fundamental issues of humanitarian interventions from the theoretical, legal and practical points of view.

Core topics to be discussed include the responsibility to protect and moral basis of humanitarian interventions; doctrinal aspects of humanitarian interventions; the legal context of humanitarian interventions; the main actors of humanitarian interventions; mechanisms of humanitarian interventions; humanitarian interventions in state practice (selected cases); the future of humanitarian interventions in the contemporary international environment.

The student will develop an awareness of the most important theoretical approaches to humanitarian interventions, their legal basis as well as the mechanisms applied. The student is able to discuss specific problems concerning humanitarian interventions with reference to the most significant interventions that have taken place in recent decades.
