Conflicts, Peacebuilding and Development

Conflicts, Peacebuilding and Development

In order to recognize and understand the interconnections between conflict, peacebuilding and development, one needs to be familiar with the general theories as well as the broader context and an in-depth analysis of a particular clash. The course attempts to provide a holistic understanding of the phenomenon of conflict. Facilitated by an expert practitioner, it is not merely a review of ideas but it also examines tools and methods for applying theories into practice and reflects whether current concepts of working successfully in fragile contexts are locally relevant and effective.

Participants will:

  • Understand the concept of peacebuilding and statebuilding, the role of state and non-state actors and their limitations in the process.
  • Know peacebuilding methodologies.
  • Recognize the complicity of the links between violent conflict, fragility, state- and peacebuilding.
