Complexity Challenges in Africa in the 21st Century

While dealing with the complexity approach in International Relations – a fairly new thinking about the global arena and all its actors with their complex interactions – the course looks at the African continent in general, but some of its states and regions in particular from different disciplinary perspectives. We will engage with political culture, state development, human security and political economy, together with foreign policies and pragmatism. The course sets the goal to investigate the multifaceted and interconnected challenges Africa faces in the 21st century with the help of case studies stemming from the professor’s fieldwork experience and research projects since 2000.

Lecturer: Prof. Istvan Tarrosy, University of Pecs (Hungary)
