From Complexity Science to Business World

Project “From Complexity Science to Business World” implemented as part of the Minigrant [WSMiP.1.2.2023] WSMiP: Competition for the development of cooperation with the external environment of the university, 3rd edition  aims at prepare, together with experts from an external entity, training for students and teaching, administrative and technical staff of the Faculty of International and Political Studies based on the concept of education through research.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with Edisonda company. The product of this cooperation is training addressed to under- and postgraduate students, doctoral students and research and administrative worker technical department of the Faculty.  Due to the research areas and business profile of the partner, the subject of the project is based on exploring the interconnections of complexity, understood on the basis of political science with the world of business, especially in industries dealing with finance, energy, sales, trade and logistics.  The most important areas that will be covered during the training include project management, mental models, and business systems. As a theoretical and methodological perspective, the complexity approach was adopted, based on building a cooperation network in relation to Global Complex Systems LAB.

Edisonda is a company that designs systems, taking into account the complexity of the environment in which the systems operate these function or are intended to function. The company focuses on business design through research, design and implementation of digital change in companies, and in a broad sense, complex digital systems in business. Edisodna has several years of experience in managing digital systems in business, primarily in sectors such as finance, logistics, sales and energy.

In order to ensure the durability of the project results, a workshop will be conducted during which students who previously took part in a training will transfer the acquired knowledge and skills to other students, thus implementing the peer teaching model.

Timeline of the project:

  • 9th October 2 PM Meeting with students
  • 19th October 3– 6 PM Lectures: Solving business problems – introduction (M. Kręcioch, Managing Partner, Edisonda) & Complexity science – introduction (S. Wyciślak, PhD, UJ)
  • 9th November 3 – 6 PM Lecture: Solving business problems - practical tools and approach & Workshop: Defining problem and setting up the tools to verify it (Marcin Kręcioch, Sławomir Wyciślak, Maria Leńczuk (Senior Business Designer, Edisonda))
  • 27th November  12 – 3 PM Workshop: synthesis and concept preparation
  • 28th November 12 – 3 PM Workshop: summary
