Clusters

In order to have a better understanding in its policy areas, EuroHub4Sino will conduct the policy research on China in six clusters with a particular focus on the EU context. Each cluster will be led by a research partner from the Consortium. The Jagiellonian University in Kraków will take over the “Science, Technology and Innovation – STI" cluster.

Science, Technology and Innovation – STI

China aims to become world leader in science and innovation by 2050. Based on its R&D and industry strategy, China has already become a competitor in fast growing high-tech sectors. Beyond its R&D activities, China uses other means such as acquiring new technologies by mergers & acquisitions or simply using cyberespionage tools to get them. The US and the EU are gradually understanding the risks of losing technological advantage, hence limiting Chinese access to the US/EU based technologies. As such rivalry is clearly visible with the US, the Europeans seemed to neglect the process, and only recently have noted rising risks connected to the role of possibly disruptive aspects of digital technologies (including technological race, but also dangers connected with the application of newly acquired technologies for undermining democracy or civil liberties). To tackle this topic, the Jagiellonian University has created a team of researchers and staff working on EuroHub4Sino. Through organising events and workshops as well as publishing papers, our University will address said cluster and contribute to the overall quality of research within this project.

Other clusters in EuroHub4Sino include:

  • Multilateral Frameworks and Institutions
  • Trade and Economy
  • Global Peace and Security
  • Deconstructing China
  • Environment and Climate Change
