Jagiellonian University is launching the sixth edition of the MA in International Security and Development (ISAD) and the third MA in International Relations and Public Diplomacy (IR-PUB)!
The Centre for International Studies and Development of the Jagiellonian University is launching the sixth edition of the MA in International Security and Development (ISAD) and the third edition of International Relations and Public Diplomacy (IR-PUB). Previous editions of our programmes attracted almost 300 applications from more than 40 countries all over the world. Currently, nearly 80 students are participating in the ISAD Programme at the Jagiellonian University. We are proud to announce that the Jagiellonian University was ranked as the one of the TOP 6 universities of QS University Rankings for EECA 2020 (Emerging Europe and Central Asia).
The international discussion on the most troubling global problems of the modern world, such as the escalating conflict in Iran, Brexit and its consequences for the European and global economies, the European migrant crisis, the threat of terrorist attacks, the emergence of the COVID-19 coronavirus in China, as well as many other contemporary challenges, show the huge demand for specialists and strategists in the field of security and development. It also indicates the need to raise public awareness of the correlation between aid transferred to developing countries and the sense of security among developed countries' societies.
In order to respond to these trends and due to the intense interest in previous years, the Jagiellonian University is launching the fourth edition of the MA programme of studies - International Security and Development and creating a new MA double-degree international programme IR-PUB. ISAD aims to foster creative thinking about the complex problems of global security and development, as well as equipping students with the requisite analytical tools, language expertise, and cross-cultural understanding. It also helps gain the professional skills needed to manage global security and development in an international environment. IR-PUB focuses on acquiring knowledge which combines issues of the multi-level analysis of both international relations and state activities in the external sphere and adapting the possessed knowledge and skills, with a particular emphasis on the importance of public diplomacy (political, economic, cultural) both at the level of global and regional institutions and state and non-governmental organizations.
- Our goal is to educate specialists who understand the importance of the problems of the modern world and seek solutions for them. We want to educate strategists able to implement actions that ensure the appropriate targeting of aid projects, and thus greater stability in international relations – emphasizes Marcin Grabowski, the Director of the Centre.
These two-year programmes provide practical and theoretical knowledge of those areas thanks to input from Polish and international scholars. Academic courses are taught in English, with students also learning a second foreign language of their choice. There are two academic tracks (specialisations): international security and international development. The programme includes professional traineeships and workshops with experts.
Throughout the whole two-year programme six scholarships are available for the top students. There are three scholarships in the first year of studies, and another three scholarships in the second - for more on scholarships available, see here.
