We are pleased to invite you to the lecture by Professor Thomas J. Biersteker "The Impacts and Effectiveness of Sanctions on Russia".

Multilateral sanctions were applied by the G7+ following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Although many leaders and pundits described them as "unprecedented," more extensive sanctions regimes have been applied in other contexts. What is unique about the measures, and what is not? What are their purposes, how have they been designed, what has been their impact to date, and how should we think about their effectiveness? Looking forward, how might the relaxation of the measures be used in the future to facilitate a negotiated settlement of the conflict?
