K. Bielaj - lecture on diplomatic representations

Dear Students,

On behalf of the International Security and Development programme, we would like to cordially invite you to attend the lecture on International Cooperation in the Activity of the Foreign Representations delivered by Dr Krzysztof Bielaj.

Dr Bielaj is an experienced diplomat. He served for around 15 years as a Polish representative, most recently as the Head of the Political and Economic Section in Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Pretoria (South Africa, 2014-2018). In the nineties and in first few years of the next decade he was professionally involved in the area of international marketing in the private sector.

Dr Krzysztof Bielaj completed his Ph.D. at the International University in New Port, USA.

During the lecture, he will raise the question of role of central state institutions as well as diplomatic mission abroad and non-diplomatic entities in the coordination of the activity of the foreign representations.

As an experienced diplomat he will be able to resolve students’ doubts concerning issues connected to the tasks of employees of central state institutions abroad and present real-life examples of chores demanded from officers serving their country beyond the borders.

Everyone interested in working in diplomacy, in particular in sections managing international marketing and economic affairs should not omit the meeting.

Below you will find a structure of the upcoming lecture:

I Role of the central state institutions fundamental in coordinating the activity of the foreign representations (missions).President, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Parliament).
II Bilateral permanent foreign diplomatic representations.
1. Permanent bilateral diplomatic missions abroad (Embassies),
2. Permanent non diplomatic bilateral missions (Honorary Consul, Trade and Investment Agencies, Institutes of Culture, etc.).
III Permanent diplomatic representations at the international organizations (for example at OECD).
IV Multilateral diplomatic foreign representations (conference diplomacy, for example at UN).
V Cooperation of the foreign representations with the authorities in the receiving countries.
1. Examples of Cooperation of the permanent bilateral diplomatic missions (Embassies),
2.Examples of cooperation of the permanent non-diplomatic bilateral foreign representations (for example Honorary Consul, Trade and Investment Agencies, Institute of Culture, etc.).
3. Examples of cooperation of the permanent diplomatic missions accredited at the international organizations (for example at OECD, Paris),
4.Examples of cooperation of the multilateral diplomatic foreign representations (for example at UN).
