Making sense of the conflict(s) in Afghanistan and Christmas meeting

Let's gather to answer the question concerning the current conflict situation in Afghanistan. We would like to invite all Jagiellonian University students to join organized by Centre for International Studies and Development of Jagiellonian University lecture entitled: Making sense of the conflict(s) in Afghanistan.

Our distinguished guest will Mr Krzystof Tlałka. He holds a PhD degree in political science from Jagiellonian University and his doctoral thesis was recognized as the best doctoral thesis by the Polish Political Science Association in 2015. His research interests focus on peace operations, foreign military interventions and international security cooperation in the Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East. In 2018-2019 he served in Afghanistan in the NATO Resolute Support Mission.

The aim of the lecture is to present and explain the most important features of the current political and security situation in Afghanistan, including:

  • relations between the main parties of the conflicts,
  • rivalry between international actors over influence in the country,
  • recent developments in internal politics,
  • trends in security situation, including the changes in Western strategy,
  • the peace process,
  • common myths on Afghanistan.

Date: 16th of December (Monday), 11.15-13.30

After the lecture, there will be a Christmas meeting of Students of International Security and Development programme.
