Global Complex System's Research Areas

The main research areas include the analysis of the role of great powers and the transformation of the world order in the era of digitization using the tools from the mathematical sciences (e.g. game theory, probability calculus, monetary statistics) and information science (graph theory, algorithmic game theory, data mining). The activities of the GCS LAB will focus on identifying the behaviour of states and their political apparatuses during crises, taking into account digital tools of society surveillance during the pandemic and neural networks in learning processes in complex systems. An important aspect of the research are state intelligence activities (political and economic), which collect digital data in the textual and audiovisual dimensions, thanks to which it is possible to actually monitor citizens.

Therefore, this topic addresses both the problem of the transformation of the international system and the limitation of the powers of great powers in the era of global digitization and access to information. It is also possible to analyze and evaluate state strategies, taking into account the impact of centralization and decentralization of systems and decision-making possibilities in the conditions of digitization of the political sphere, in which international cooperation determines the creation of new solutions (e.g. decision-making processes in foreign policy, digitization of political campaigns and the importance of fake news from the use of artificial intelligence tools that serve the processes of securitization and strengthening power by individual governments through the use of probabilistic models of elections, tools of preferences and electoral behaviour; the use of instruments for monitoring the movement of capital and population in the system or fighting epidemiological outbreaks). It is therefore possible to analyze the way in which the nation-state responds to changes caused by crises. This allows for the identification of any reorganization of the priorities of individual strategies in the field of health, social or economic security and the implications of the crisis in the study of supply chains and their impact on the possibilities of global governance using digital tools, e.g. computational theory of social choice.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the project, the creation of the LAB will be based on the research of large data sets and which requires the use of digital analysis instruments: dynamic systems, advanced simulation models, neurolinguistic programming, machine learning algorithms as well as mathematical and econometric models.
