The Jagiellonian University, as a world-class research unit, actively participates in the European Research Area, which is the main field of implementation of the European Union's research and development policy. By internationalizing the teaching of the Jagiellonian University, educating students and participating in renowned international cooperation networks, i.e. Coimbra Group, The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, Utrecht Network, UNA Europa, EUNIS, EUA, IREG, SAR, Baltic University Program, AUCSO and others. wishes to participate in the creation of a more open and integrated society, the exchange of information and views, their verification and the improvement of education processes. In 2020, as part of studies conducted in foreign languages, recruitment was carried out for 4 fields of first-cycle studies and 12 fields of second-cycle studies and 2 fields of uniform Master's studies. 1 913 applied for admission to studies. 1,144 foreigners applied for studies conducted in Polish, 746 were admitted; 794 foreigners applied for studies conducted in English, 432 were admitted. Among those admitted to studies conducted in Polish, the largest group were citizens of Ukraine (67%), Belarus (17%) and Russia (5%). Among those enrolled in English-language studies, the largest group were citizens of Norway (15%), India (9%) and China (8%). As part of the trips supported by the International Cooperation Department, 837 employees and doctoral students and 105 students went abroad in 2020, and 277 foreigners visited the University in the same period. Additionally, as part of Erasmus, 784 students and doctoral students left the Jagiellonian University in the period 2019/2020/2021, and a total of 1505 scholarship holders (students and doctoral students) came.
In 2019/2020, the University signed 72 new agreements on scientific cooperation. In 2020, a total of 1,859 projects were implemented at the Jagiellonian University using funds from national and international programs and structural funds, including funding for the implementation of 417 new projects worth over PLN 370 million. The Faculty of International and Political Studies offers an extensive catalog of programs, including foreign-language programs, which allow graduates to become valued and comprehensively educated experts. Faculty students acquire not only comprehensive and useful in their professional life education, but also one that develops their interests and passions, in line with the centuries-old tradition of the University. The leading position of the Faculty is evidenced not only by the great popularity of its educational programs, but also by the results of rankings and classifications, in which our programs and units have been rated among the best for many years, as well as the results of monitoring graduate achievements.
The aim of the project is to further internationalize the Jagiellonian University in the area of education and research potential through the implementation of 4 IMPK in the form of summer and winter schools for 60 foreign students in the area of complexity thinking. Preparation of an offer relating to the key methodological and substantive challenges of the world will allow to show the Jagiellonian University as a leader in this area and attract the interest of foreign students.
The project will be implemented as winter and summer theoretical and methodological schools in the perspective of the issues of complexity theory, which will enable the enrichment of knowledge and skills, crucial for conducting scientific research, which are published internationally. The prepared IMPK will take into account theoretical modules and modules related to the challenges of the 21st century, such as the problems of international development, security, and challenges of individual regions of the world. IMPK will be implemented in a hybrid or remote system.
Foreign lecturers will be involved in the implementation of the project. Research and teaching staff employed in Poland will be able to participate in training and methodological schools to improve their competences. The project will make the offer of the Jagiellonian University a leader in the field of complexity studies and build the potential for further internationalization of research and education through international cooperation with universities from Europe and the world. It will also encourage participants to participate in full courses of education at the Jagiellonian University.
Our two winter schools will be organized on February 13-17, 2023 in a hybrid mode. Each of them will include five six-hour courses taught by leading figures in their respective fields.

The planned result of the project is the development of specialist knowledge among the dedicated research and teaching staff based on the implementation of summer schools (e.g. IPSA, ECPR, Oxford Spring School, Ann Arbor Summer Institute) and study visits to research centers on complexity (e.g. University of Sydney, University of Calgary, University of Oxford, Indiana University). The courses will increase the competences and skills of target groups within the proposed thematic areas through the development of specialist knowledge of the staff, which allows to increase the innovativeness and competitiveness of the educational offer of the unit.
